I want to add headlines or quotes between the blocks to say something about women and their lives. I experimented here with gluing newspaper print to fabric, as newsprint is a soft fabric.
After the glue dried, I made a tiny quilt sandwich and tested the paper and glue on the sewing machine. I didn’t know how this would sew up, but it was like butter. Not a single problem.
I also used glue to baste the collage pieces to the first quilt block. I use Liquitex Matte Medium (gel) and applied it thinly. I didn’t want the glue seeping up through the fabric.
This technique worked very well. I did not cover each collage piece completely, but put the glue in a few crucial sort of spots just to hold the pieces in place.
Here is block 1 on the design wall.
